Merry Christmas from the Ecks!

We usually just put out a picture-type Christmas card every year, but at the end of November, I had a fun idea and created a quick sketch of our family as snowmen.  Shelley liked the idea so I sat down to draw the real thing and thought how weird it would be for a family of snowmen to live in Houston.  We live on the Galveston side of the city, so I switched snow for sand and put us on the beach.

Below you can see all 3 steps of the process from the first sketch, to the black & white illustration, to the finished product.  I did all the pencils and inking by hand but the coloring was all done in Photoshop using my Wacom tablet.

From the Texas Gulf Coast to your family, Merry Christmas!

tECKSas Comic Strip #1

This is a new comic strip series that I'm starting to chronicle funny goings on in the Travis Eck family.  These will probably be few and far between, but when inspiration strikes, I'll have somewhere to go with the idea.  This first strip was inspired by me and Shelley's trip to Galveston Beach on Memorial Day weekend 2012.  It was our first overnight outing without the kids since Jonas was born almost 2 years ago!  It was a great day...except for the seaweed.

This is as big as I can make the preview, but you can double click on the image to enlarge it!  Enjoy!
